RESOLUTION on Disasters, Environmental Racism, and the Climate Crisis and their Impact on Black and other Historically Marginalized Communities
Whereas: All Healers Mental Health Alliance and other Black organizations are key responders to both natural and human-caused disasters.
Whereas: Black and other historically marginalized communities continue to be victimized by environmental racism, increasing their vulnerability to disasters.
Whereas: Government policies and laws, along with business and industry actions, have generated structural inequities manifested in adverse social determinants which further damage the physical and mental health, well-being, and quality of life of these vulnerable individuals and communities.
Whereas: The mental health consequences alone, direct, and indirect, are enormous, including, but not limited to extreme stress, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other mental health conditions.
Whereas: The primary contributors of the global climate crisis catastrophe are government policies and laws, along with business and industry actions.
And Whereas: Black and other historically marginalized communities are the most severely affected victims of the climate crisis.
Be it resolved that, we, the members of All Healers Mental Health Alliance, are calling upon the President and his Administration, along with the U.S. Congress, other elected officials, and business and industry leaders to address the devastating adverse impact of disasters, environmental racism, and the climate crisis on Black and other historically marginalized communities.
